Session Info

Typically newborn sessions occur during the first 7-12 days of life. Sessions take place in your home & usually take about 1-2 hours. Keep in mind that we follow the baby's schedule and we always make time for feeding and changing. I suggest swaddling baby in a blanket or wrap (you can provide or I have them also); this allows us to see the baby's face clearly. Many outfits are too big and loose - newborns typically don't fill-out clothing so outfits just don't photograph well. My newborn style is authentic and natural. I avoid using props and prefer to use mom, dad and siblings to hold the baby for a lifestyle feel. If you choose to have the session only for your baby & no family members, then I use a soft, flat surface and blankets to lay and gently pose the baby.  **Mini Sessions are not offered for newborns - unfortunately 20 minutes is not an adequate amount of time for this age.

Maternity sessions are best around 32-34 weeks when women feel good and have a nice healthy bump going! Be sure to wear a shirt or dress that is snug around the belly. I realize most pregnant women don’t focus on accentuating the belly on a daily basis, but this is the time to show it off! Plus, leaving loose material around the midsection can add on pounds that aren’t really there, and who wants that?! I also recommend solid colors instead of patterns for this type of session, but feel free to wear some bold color or bring a fun scarf or necklace to make the photos pop!

I suggest at least two to three outfits for seniors, and we will usually shoot at two to three different locations to offer a variety of backgrounds. Professional skin retouching is included in all sessions for a flawless look.

If you have little ones, I certainly don’t expect them to sit perfectly and smile at the camera the whole time. I have three of my own, and trust me, that has NEVER happened! Let this be the moment where you let them get away with a few things without getting in trouble. Kids love nothing more than seeing their parents be silly, so relax and have fun with them and that’s where we will get those genuine smiles and candid moments!

Clothing is also an important part of the session. Families should wear a couple complimentary colors and coordinate in a subtle way.  If your session is scheduled during a season with more subdued outdoor colors (winter, early spring) then bold, rich colors look nice and will pop on the neutral background. For example, a red shirt looks gorgeous outside during the winter months with the snow and brown tones in the environment.

For kids, I suggest trying something fun... I love layers, textures, bold color, ruffles, fur, or patterns. Hats, headbands, tutus, patterned leggings, rain boots, cowboy boots, scarves, ties & bow ties, and costumes are always fun too! Instead of dressing all of your kids in polo shirts, have each child in their own style but coordinate the colors. It will add interest to the photo and give each child their own identity! If your child has a favorite toy, stuffed animal, doll, blanket or book, feel free to bring it.
